Seafood should be reproducible resources for human being. However, world fish catches have peaked since the 1990s despite increase in aquaculture production. Traditional fisheries science consider only fisheries, some consequences of which include “fishing down” marine food webs, the over fishing by the tuna laundering, the tragedy of common, the food mileage, ecosystem crash, and food pollution. A paradigm shift, therefore, should be needed from the traditional fisheries science to a new ecological fisheries science for the protection of marine ecosystems and human food resources in order to be human well-being in future generation. This symposium aims to discuss the sustainability of ocean ecosystem and seafood for human species in the future.
水産資源は、人類にとって再生可能なサステナブルな資源のはずですが、前世紀末から乱獲による漁業資源の減少や養殖による沿岸生態系の攪乱と食品安全性への不安という種々の課題を呈するようになってきました。本シンポジウムでは、海洋生態系と水産食料に関する世代間を越えてニーズを満足させる「世代間衡平性」を確実なものとする「明日の海と食を守る」ため、国際的な協調に向けた環太平洋の研究教育ネットワークの構築を模索することを目的としています。
