Two rainbow trout strains (RT92H04 and RT92H10) were gained by chromosome manipulation from infectious hematopoietic necrosis (IHN) tolerant selected rainbow trout at Fuji Trout Hatchery, Shizuoka Prefectural Fisheries Experimental Station. Disease tolerance and reproduction trait of these strains were investigated.
Though IHN tolerant, RT92H10 had low resistance to Vibrio anguillarum infection. On the other hand, RT92H04 was V. anguillarum infection tolerant and had low resistance to IHN. RT92H04 grew slowly but matured at the age of two. RT92H10 took three years to mature, although it grew relatively fast.
These results revealed that these strains may be useful as breeding stock or immunological experimental fish.
