Age and Growth of Silvergray Seaperch Malakichthys griseus in Kagoshima Bay, Japan

Takaki Iwakawa*1 and Takakazu Ozawa*2

Age and growth of Silvergray seaperch Malakichthys griseus collected from Kagoshima Bay were estimated from their otoliths. The spawning season was estimated to extend from September to November by analyses of gonadal condition. Monthly changes of marginal growth index indicated that the annulus was formed once a year in a duration of July to September. The month of aging was set at September and overlapped with the spawning period. The growth equation (von Bertalanffy) calculated with the ages and average standard lengths was expressed by Lt=178.170[1−exp{−0.219(t+0.952)}] (Lt: average standard length in mm, t: age in year). There was no significant difference between the female and male in the growth equation.
