Shape and Hydrodynamic Characteristics of Canvas Kite for Midwater Trawl*1

Munechika Ishizaki*2 and Shigeru Fuwa*2

In order to clarify the hydrodynamic characteristics of the canvas-made kite, a flume tank experiment was conducted using 5 types of model kites with different camber ratios under changing of attack angles. The results obtained in this study were as follows. The maximum lift coefficient and maximum lift-drag ratio were 1.37 and 2.00 respectively at the camber ratio of 0.2 and attack angle of 50 degrees in type I. It seems that the best design of a canvas-made kite was type I for the purpose of simply constructed mouse opening devices.
